B.Ed. department was established in July 1973 and  was affiliated by Kumaun University Nainital in the same year. It was recognized by NCTE on 5th Dec. 1998 (from the academic  year  1998-99).70 seats were sanctioned at that time. In B.Ed.Programme Students are selected through the common entrance test conducted by Kumaon University Nainital. 70 students were enrolled every year in B.Ed. Programme (annual     mode)till 2014-15. The department got sanctioned one unit of 50 students from 2015 when two year B.Ed programme was introduced. Syllabus was set by University as per NCTE regulation 2014. B.Ed. training comprises minimum 200 working days  in each academic  year including     theoretical aspects, practical work, Internship,workshop, lab work, seminar, debate, discussions & community work. Department  prepares  academic  calendar  and organizes teaching-learning  activities  accordingly.Different committees like literery committee, Prayer committee, Discipline Committee, Sports Committee, Cultural Committee,ICT Committee, Sanitation Committee etc. are formed to run the programme in best  way. Seven faculty  members are providing services to the department . Different co-curricular activities like debate competition, seminar presentation, quiz competition, poster making competition and cultural programmes, Cleanliness drive and awareness campaign regularly organized by related committees established at  the departmental level. National day celebrations like Teachers day, Education day, Hindi diwas, Environmental day and Women’s day are celebrated with great enthuasium.The teaching learning process  is organized to develop civic  sense,  spirit of  working together   and sharing responsibility. Practice Teaching is organized in Secondary Schools to develop teaching skill in real situations under the guidance and observation of supervisers . In first phase of practice teaching emphasis was laid on pedagogic concepts and followed by Micro teaching and Simulated teaching.The minimum attendance of  student teacher shall have to be 80% for all course work and practicumum and 90% for School Internship. Minimum 10 schools are selected every year for Internship programme.

Department publish a magazine “ABHIVYAKTI” every year from 2014.Two handbooks for teachers are also published. Two of the faculty members achieved special social recognition by getting awards. From 2018 department is working with NGO “GO GREEN GO CLEAN” in the field of sanitation.  Overall teachers participation for quality improvement are being envisaged in this programme.

  • To inculcate professional ethics among students .

Extension  Activities-
B.Ed Department is upgraded as  College of Teacher Education(CTE)under Centrally Sponsered Scheme of Teacher Education in 2013 .CTE aims for quality improvement of pre-service and in-service Teachers through training programmes .Three districts of Kumaon region namely Almora,Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar are in work area of CTE Haldwani  for In-service training programme.The department has accomplished 16 refresher courses in Hindi,English,Science,Maths and Social Science for L.T. teachers of secondary and Higher Secondary Schools and  has  successfully trained numerous teachers. It has organized  TNA workshop in English and Maths to chalk out the content of the training programme in related subjects.Different workshops are organized for student teachers under Pre-service programmes.Details of activities are given  below.
